For years, I thought I was simply a big dog lover. After all, they are cute, trainable, happy to see me at any hour and—unlike teenagers—they do not roll their eyes. They sleep through the night, eat without complaint and I am fairly certain they even think I am funny. Most importantly, they have given me years of free, unlimited therapy.
How is it that the mere presence of a dog can bring such comfort? For a long time, I did not know. But now I think I may understand why our families, our communities and even our world love dogs so deeply.
Spoiler alert: It is because…
DOG IS GOD SPELLED BACKWARDS.
This little book is not fancy or theologically deep. It is simply a reflection on the many ways God’s love is shown through dogs. Perhaps after reading it, you will wonder if there is a divine reason that DOG is GOD spelled backwards.
Shannon Copeland is a writer, designer, creator, and lifelong dog lover who has spent years discovering how the simple, steady presence of a dog can reveal deep spiritual truths. Blending creativity, scripture, and personal reflection, she brings a fresh, heartfelt voice to the idea that God’s love is visible in everyday moments. Shannon lives in Dallas, where she finds joy in her family (which, of course, includes her 2 dogs), her friends, and in creating meaningful projects that celebrate connection, beauty, and faith. DOG: God Spelled Backwards is her tribute to the unconditional love of God that has shaped every aspect of her life.
